3 on 3 Basketball Tournament Rules

Teams/Players
1. The tournament has a double elimination format; teams are guaranteed 2 games.
2. Teams will consist of three players, with no more than four.
3. Players may play on only one team.
4. Boys and girls divisions will be separate. Co-ed teams will be placed in the boys division.
5. Availability is based on a first come basis.  For teams registering by April 16, 2010 the fee is $80. After April 16, 2010 the fee is $100 if there is availability.
6. Teams must check in on tournament day 30 minutes before their first scheduled game.
Play/Sportsmanship
1. Teams must be at their assigned court at the scheduled game time. A five minute forfeit rule will be enforced.
2. All games can start and end with any number of players on the court (1,2 or 3)
3. Initial ball possession will be determined by a coin toss.
4. Possession will change after each score. Upon a possession change, the offensive team must allow the defensive team to ‘check’ the ball at the head of the circle beyond the three-point line.
5. After ‘checking’ the ball, the offensive player must pass the ball in to a teammate. You may not dribble the ball into play.
6. When the defensive team gets the ball by either a steal or rebound, they must take the ball behind the three-point line at any point before attacking the basket on offense.
7. There will be no lane violations; no 3 seconds in the key.
8. Player substitution is permitted during any dead-ball situation.
9. Each team will be allowed one 30 second time out. The clock does not stop running. A time out may not be permitted during the last two minutes of the game.
10. An official will be assigned to each game to call fouls, violations and control the game. His/her word is final.
11. Fouls will be called by the court official. The ball will be taken out by the appropriate team. The court official will keep track of fouls. On the 7th team foul and there after the offended team will receive one point and possession of the ball. Severe incidents will result in player ejection.
12. No trash talking, taunting, swearing or fighting will be permitted. Each team will be given one warning. The next time will result is the team forfeiting the game.
13. Remember GOOD SPORTS ARE WINNERS.
Games/Scoring
1. Winners will be the first team to score 20 points with a two point advantage.
2. Games will have a 20 minute time limit. The team ahead by a two point margin at that time will be declared the winner.
3. A field goal counts as one point.
4. A goal from behind the 3-pont arc is worth two points. The player shooting must have both feet completely behind the line when initiating the attempt.
5. Winning teams will return the score sheets to the scorekeepers table.
6. First place and second place teams in each division will receive awards.
