Child Care

2017-18 Healthy Out of School Time (HOST)

At the Y, we believe children should have a place to explore their talents  & interests. The YMCA  HOST program focuses on healthy eating, physical activity, education & social development for students grades K - 5. Conveniently located at each elementary school, we ensure your students are safe, nurtured & supported after the bell rings. Open during select half days, school breaks & snow days, you can count on us as a place your student will learn, grow & thrive!

In our care, your child will receive:

  • Garunteed 30 minutes of physical activity

  • Healthy snacks served daily

  • Dedicated homework & learning time

  • Youth Development based on the YMCA's 4 core values:
      • Caring • Honesty • Respect • Responsibility •

  • Enrichment Opportunities

  • Care during select half days, school breaks & snow days

The HOST program uses a curriculum called "Coordinated Approach to Children's Health" or CATCH to help drive home the importance of healthy eating habits and regular physical exercise.

Each day, your student has access to healthy snacks. We serve a fruit or vegetable paired with another healthy option such as a dairy or whole grain with water being the beverage of choice. All snacks served at HOST sites follow the HEPA guidelines:

•Less than 8 grams of sugar • No sugar sweetened beverages •
•No partially hydrogenated oils or trans fats •

At HOST, we choose to forgo the electronics. The CATCH curriculum puts an emphasis on keeping everyone moving for the whole 30 minutes as opposed to a game where they may get "out" and have to wait on the sidelines to rejoin the game.

When school has a scheduled half day HOST will be offered at your students school. HOST will operate from the dismissal of school until 6:00PM.

There will be certain days during the school year, when school is on a break, where full day HOST will be offered. On those days HOST will be offered from 9AM to 5PM at the First Presbyterian Church.

HOST may be offered on snow days. It is up to the discretion of the Y to decide if it is safe to travel on the roads. When this service is offered, it will be held from 9AM to 5PM at the First Presbyterian Church.
*These services are included at no additional cost to participants attending 4 or 5 days/week.

*Please note that you are able to change the days you are scheduled to attend at the start of each month depending on availability. The days attended cannot change each week. If you have any questions about scheduling or to see availability at your school, please contact Kari Manthei at 231-348-8393 or via email at
