Our Mission:

To put Judeo-Christian principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind, and body for all.

Our Values:

We are a values-based, mission-driven organization focusing on character development and inclusion with an emphasis on caring, honesty, respect and responsibility.

The YMCA of Northern Michigan was established in the fall of 2003 after a successful YMCA Founders Campaign.
Since that time we have created a true presence in Emmet County.  Other organizations that have been involved or collaborated with the YMCA of NM:  Emmet County Parks & Recreation; Petoskey Public Schools, Harbor Springs Public Schools, Boyne City Public Schools, Amercian Red Cross, C.O.A.T.S, Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts.
  • Each year over 2,500 youth and teens are involved with the YMCA through a variety of programs and events from collaborative efforts.
  • Over 1,200 children have benefited from Y Winners Sports program.
  • Each summer over 300 children attend YMCA Day Camp at Camp Petosega; 25% of  those campers were able to attend because they were part of our campership program.
  • Post-Game parties in collaboration with C.O.A.T.S. see an average of 60 students after each game.
  • The Y Center is regularly used by upper elementary and middle school kids after school; averaging 20 students per day.  Students are supervised by trained YMCA staff.
  • Membership fees are maintained at a level that makes the Y accessible to all families in our community.

The YMCA of Northern Michigan looks forward to a future of strengthening individuals and families in our region through concentrated efforts in developing strong, affordable, and sustainable family-based programs.  Our programs will focus as much on building character and spirit, as they do on building health for individuals.
We will continue to expand both program and membership opportunities to all families.
We will continue to increase involvement with the YMCA from children from low income families.
